'Education Committee for Military Master's Professional Degree' Set Up

The "Education Committee for Military Master's Professional Degree", founded in Beijing on August 6, marks a new stage of ranking military personnel training in Chinese armed forces, said an official with the Headquarters of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).

Fourteen military academies, including the National Defense University, have become the first batch of pilot education units on military master's professional degree.

Unlike academic degree that stresses theoretical and scholarly studies, the military master's professional degree focuses on professional, comprehensive, innovative and practical capabilities. It pays more attention to the capability of organizing training, managing troop and directing operations, oriented directly toward middle and high command posts of the army.

Developing education on military master's professional degree represents a new starting-point in the training of ranking military staff, said Fu Quanyou, chief of the General Staff of PLA, at the inaugural meeting. He called on the newly founded committee to strive to undertake the important mission of training high-quality military commanders with firm political stand, solid military theories, rich scientific knowledge, strong innovative ability and perfect operational skills.

Currently, the PLA has 213 doctoral education sites, and 693 masters education sites, which have turned out a total of 26,000 doctors and masters, over one hundred of them have held leading posts at the division and regiment levels.
