China Unicom and related sellers held a meeting recently discussing the industrial value of CDMA network.

According to Wang Jianyu, president of China Unicom, the meeting was held under the background that by the end of May, after CDMA users exceeded 1 million, there had displayed a trend of accelerated CDMA subscription, with an average of over 15,000 consumers nationwide chose to enter the network. This signaled a bigger wave of subscription, expert said.

Construction and operation of CDMA network opened doors for the development of many enterprises and forged an industrial chain, which strings together enterprises in three fields, said Wang. First, CDMA equipment and terminal producers and related supplier, second, network operator, or China Unicom, third, CDMA agent, seller and mobile phone retailer. Enterprises at different links have to cooperate well with each other to achieve a "win-win" situation.

Now CDMA is gradually getting hold of a good market, and China Unicom should speed up developing and producing CDMA mobiles to expand market, retailer representative said.

Although CDMA suffered a difficult time after ladling out phone numbers, said Wang, the current subscription only stands for a small proportion of the capability of 15.8 million users already built. Now China Unicom is bending on the second-stage project to expand and upgrade its CDMA network.
