China Willing to Enhance Economic Ties with Morocco: Premier Zhu

While meeting with Moroccan King Mohammed VI, Chinese Premier Zhu said the Chinese government will continue to encourage Chinese enterprises to seek cooperation with their Moroccan counterparts.

Visiting Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji on Wednesday stressed the importance of promoting Sino-Moroccan economic and trade ties.

While meeting with Moroccan King Mohammed VI, Zhu said the Chinese government will continue to encourage Chinese enterprises to seek cooperation with their Moroccan counterparts.

Zhu said Morocco is one of the first group of developing countries to join the World Trade Organization (WTO), and China also gained an access into the WTO last year, adding these have provided favorable conditions for the growth of Sino-Moroccan cooperation.

Moreover, the Chinese premier also hailed fruitful cooperation between the two countries in all areas over the past four decades.

He said the two countries have engaged in sound cooperation on major international issues, adding President Jiang's visit to Morocco in 1999 and King Mohammed VI's reciprocal visit to China last February have further promoted Sino-Moroccan ties.

Zhu told the Moroccan king that he had productive talks with Moroccan Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi on ways to enhance bilateral ties on Tuesday, pointing to several accords signed following the talks.

Zhu said he believes that Sino-Moroccan ties will grow stronger and stronger in the new century.

King Mohammed VI said bilateral political ties have been developing well in recent years, thus laying a solid foundation forthe growth of bilateral economic and trade ties.

Morocco hopes to establish a deep and effective relationship of cooperation with China, he said, adding this is in the interests of the people of the two countries.

Chinese entrepreneurs are welcome to Morocco to make an investment and set up joint ventures, he said, adding his country will provide good conditions for them.

Increasing Sino-Moroccan Business Links

Premier Zhu Wednesday called on Chinese and Moroccan businessmen to explore new ways of cooperation.

Addressing a group of Moroccan businessmen in the Atlantic port city of Casablanca, Zhu said it is imperative for the two countries to expand areas of economic cooperation and encourage mutual investment.

"China's entry into the World Trade Organization last year and Morocco's status as a free trade partner with the European Union by2010 will provide broad prospects for Sino-Moroccan economic and trade cooperation," he said.

He said China encourages noted Chinese enterprises to expand their overseas business and seek cooperation with Morocco and other countries.

Zhu also briefed the Moroccan businessmen on China's economic growth.

Zhu arrived in the Moroccan capital of Rabat Tuesday morning for a three-day official visit to Morocco, the second leg of his four-nation visit to Africa, which took him to Algeria and will also take him to Cameroon and South Africa.

While in South Africa, Zhu will attend the UN World Summit on Sustainable Development on Sep. 2-4.
