'China-made Color TVs Good and Cheap': Premier Zhu

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji, who is on a visit to Morocco, not only brought with him Chinese people's friendship and aid to the Moroccan people, but also presented "generous gifts" to Morocco's government ministers: "I give every minister a set of color TV, see whether China-made TVs are good and cheap!"

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji, who is on a visit to Morocco, not only brought with him Chinese people's friendship and aid to the Moroccan people, but also presented "generous gifts" to Morocco's government ministers-

"I give every minister a set of color TV, see whether China-made TVs are good and cheap!"

While Zhu gave the same gifts to ministers of Algeria, where he just concluded a visit.

When meeting with staff representatives of Chinese embassy and enterprises in Algeria, Premier Zhu told a "secret": he once planned to give notebook computers and mobile phones respectively as gifts, but changed his mind after getting to know that Algeria depends heavily on imports for TVs.

Zhu Rongji Meets Moroccan Prime Minister
The gift is profoundly meant.

China's bilateral ties with Morocco and Algeria have been developing smoothly for over forty years, with friendly exchanges in the fields of trade, culture and public health well conducted.

However, due to certain objective reasons, problems still remain in trade balance and cooperation fields.

Known as a country of phosphate, Morocco's bulky exports to China are phosphate products, a singular exporting catalogue and rather high price casting a negative effect on Sino-Morocco trade. Statistics show that Morocco's export to China only equals one fourth of that of China to Morocco.

As for Algeria, for many years cooperation mainly focused on fields of construction, military projects and public health, while trade market remains still to be tapped.

These problems can not be solved only by aid, just like Premier Zhu once said, aid is in the way of drizzle that can bring a temporary cool time, but can not rid the drought from the root.

So the Chinese government proposed direct contacts and cooperation between entrepreneurs between the two countries, so as to seek for projects of common interests and mutual benefits and further push forward economic and trade ties.

Premier Zhu kicked off a good beginning. Our color TVs are incredibly cheap, he said. China's TV producers can set up joint ventures here, which can save foreign exchanges, improve trade ties and expand markets.

Earlier local Moroccan press lauded Zhu as a leader and economist enjoying high prestige in China. Hearing this the premier only smiled, saying I'm not an economist, for my major is electrical machinery. And it is not that I enjoy prestige, but behind me is a strong country.
