China Sends Stewards to Asiad Equestrian

Hope to have an interview with stewards at the equestrian ground of Busan Asian Games? Well, learn to speak Chinese first.

Among a dozen stewards working in the range, seven are from China. Those Chinese stewards have been learning hard about the organizing of international equestrian tournament.

Sun Weibo, an official of the Chinese Equestrian Association, is one of the stewards in the Asian Games. He said that they have learned a lot during the days in Busan.

"We came here as early as September 8 and have learned a lot since then. We learned everything, from the management of the horse stalls to the organization of the competition," he said.

"For example, the training in the equestrian ground is seemingly in disorder, but actually it is precisely planned. We can recognize who the riders are, where they come from just by a single wrist-band," added Sun.

Sun and his colleagues are here to prepare for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Lacking the organizing experience of international equestrian competitions, the Chinese Equestrian Association has decided to make every opportunity including the Asian Games to learn about the equestrian.

"Because of various reasons, China has never held any international equestrian event, so it is more than necessary for us to learn from others," said Sun.

As guest stewards, they could be involved in daily management and competition refereeing work, but they may not act as jury in the Asian Games.

"We will work as assistant referees during the competition, but not juries. Anyway, the Games provide us an important occasion to learn," said Sun.
