The trade volume between China and the European Union, China's third biggest trade partner in the world, reached 54.39 billion US dollars in the first eight months of this year, up 8.3 percent from the same period of last year.

According to figures released by Chinese customs, China's exports to the EU grew 10.7 percent year-on-year to 29.59 billion US dollars in January-August, and imports from the EU rose 5.5 percent to 24.79 billion US dollars.

Experts here attributed the development of bilateral trade and investment between China and the EU in recent years to the frequent exchanges between state leaders and economic officials from both sides.

The regular consultations between leaders expands bilateral economic cooperation and exchanges, experts said.

Despite trade disputes such as the EU's restrictions on China'slighters and products of animal origin, experts forecast the tradevolume would continue to grow healthily and rapidly.
