With big smiles, Yuan Shu-chi of Chinese Taipei stunned a pair of South Korean star archers to snatch the women's individual archery gold medal in the Asian Games Tuesday.

Yuan shocked Yun Mi-jin, double winner in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, by 113-106 points in the semifinals, ending South Korea's hope for a one-two finish on the medal standings and a clean sweep of all the golds offered in the Asiad.

The 17-year-old teenager continued her run in the final, breazing aside Kim Mun-joung, another hopeful for South Korea, by 110-104.

Yun Mi-jin, who scored a game record 114 in the quarterfinals which would be good enough for the title, only took the bronze after she edged Zhang Juanjuan of China by two points, 110-108.

"A gold? I have never thought about it. A berth in the semifinals can make me satisfied," said the high-school student Yuan. "I guess the victory comes from my relaxed attitude."

Yuan smiled every time after shooting each arrow, no matter good or bad scores. "I don't know how my rivals think of my smile.I feel confident when I am grinning."

Among the top four archers, Yuan collected a total of 319 points from the matches of the last eight, semifinals and final while Yun had the highest 330, with Kim 325 and Zhang 323.

"My form is perfect today. I am happy and lucky for the gold. Ifeel pity for the Korean archer who narrowly missed the chance," Yuan said.

It is the first time for Yuan to claim a victory in the international or regional meets, also first for Chinese Taipei's women archers in Asiad.

South Korea have wrapped all the gold medals on offer at the past three Asiads. They claimed three out of four titles in the Sydney Olympic Games.
