Chinese Meng Guanliang won the gold medal of canoeing in 2002 Asian Games on Thursday, winning in the men's single Canadian 1,000 meters event.

Chinese Meng Guanliang won the gold medal of canoeing in 2002 Asian Games on Thursday, winning in the men's single Canadian 1,000 meters event.

Meng covered the distance with a winning time of three minutes 58.748 seconds. Nurmaganbetov Kaisar of Kazakhstan took the silvermedal with four minutes 0.452 seconds.

Kovalenko Dmitriy of Uzberkistan placed third with three minutes 08.948 seconds.
