China Wins Third Gold at Asiad Canoeing

Wang Bin and Yang Wenjun of China took the gold medal of men's double Canadian canoeing 1,000m titleat the Asian Games Thursday.

China retained its winning momentum by taking the men's double Canadian canoe 1000 meter event at the Asiad Thursday.

Wang Bing and Yang Wenjun joined hands to clock a winning timeof three minutes 44.382 seconds, beating the opponents from Japan (3:49.752) and South Korea (3:54.348).

"This is the first time for both of us to take part in the Asiad," said Wang Bing, "I am quite excited just to compete here, let alone to win a gold medal.

"We have trained very hard in the past months, so I won't be surprised to beat the opponents." added Wang, "but a five-second lead is beyond my expectation."

The duo, who partnered for just 4 months, paid special thanks to their coach Marek Ploch from Canada.

"I would not had the chance to stand on top of the podium without his coaching." said Wang, "He have trained us for only five months, but I felt myself have jumped onto a higher level."

The Chinese pair will also take part in the men's double Canadian canoe 500 meters final which will be held on Saturday.

"The gold medal of 1,000m event will greatly boost our hope in the 500m event." said Yang Wenjun, "I felt energized from the beginning and felt as fresh as in the start line after I finished the competition."

"I have the confidence to win the 500m event on Saturday." added Yang.

Earlier, China has won golds at the men's single kayak 1,000m and men's single Canadian canoe 1000m events.
