World champion Guo Jingjing Takes Second Asiad Gold

World champion Guo Jingjing of China took her second gold in Asiad diving pool after beating fellow Chinese Wu Minxia in the women's 3m springboard final on Thursday.

World Champion Guo Jingjing Takes Second Asiad Gold
World champion Guo Jingjing of China took her second gold in Asiad diving pool after beating fellow Chinese Wu Minxia in the women's 3m springboard final on Thursday.

Guo, also an Olympic silver medalist, took the title with a combined total of 629.40 points from 10 dives in semifinals and final.

It is the fifth gold medal for the star-studded Chinese team inthe Asiad diving tournament and the second title for Guo who teamed up with Wu Minxia in Tuesday's 3m synchronized diving.

Guo Jingjing, now the number one springboard diver in China after the retirement of Olympic champion Fu Mingxia, was never seriously challenged in Thursday evening's final. She hit the day's highest mark of 79.20 points in her second dive and her lowest mark in the final is also as high as 69.60 points.

Wu Minxia, Guo's partner in the 3m synchronized diving, suffered from a minor error in her fourth dive and got only 52.56 points. Yet her total of 609.15 points was still good enough for asilver medal.

The bronze medal was taken by Ryoko Nishii of Japan who collected a total of 485.79 points, edging Sheila Perez of the Philippines to the fourth place at 477.57 points.
