Jiang said he is convinced that this visit will contribute to the advancement of bilateral relations.

The president emphasized the long-standing bilateral friendship of the two countries, despite their geographic distance, and recalled the firm support of the Chinese people for Mozambique's national independence.

Since the two countries forged diplomatic ties, there has been mutual respect and trust, and the two have enjoyed a cooperative relationship based on reciprocity and equality in such fields as politics, economics, military forces, culture, education and health with fruitful results, noted Jiang.

In addition, the two countries have supported each other in international affairs, added Jiang.

He stressed that China has always attached a great deal of importance to its friendship and cooperation with African countries and will continue to expand its areas of cooperation within the framework of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum.

Expressing his admiration for China's great achievements over the past two decades, Mocumbi said his country is currently focusing on economic development and hopes to learn from China, especially from China's experience in building special economic zones and economic development zones.

Describing China as Mozambique's reliable friend, Mocumbi expressed his thanks for China's past assistance to his country.

He said Mozambique and China enjoy very good political relations, and reiterated that Mozambique adheres to the one-China policy and supports China's reunification.

The sound bilateral, political relations are the foundation for the smooth progress of bilateral relations, added the prime minister.

Referring to his fruitful talks with Zhu, he said Mozambique will further expand cooperation with China and its enterprises so as to continuously enrich the content of bilateral relations.

He added that the follow-up actions of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum are encouraging, and the forum will not only benefit African countries in the fields of economics, education and human resources development, but will also contribute to the development of Sino-African friendship.

Mocumbi started his eight-day working visit to China on Wednesday at the invitation of Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji.
