Chinese Ma Defends Women's Cross Country Cycling Title in Asiad

Defending champion Ma Yanping won the women's cross country cycling title in the Asian Games here onSaturday.

Defending champion Ma Yanping won the women's cross country cycling title in the Asian Games here onSaturday.

The 25-year-old Chinese clocked 1 hour 42 minutes 48 seconds towin the gold, beating Yukari Nakagome of Japan in 1:43:51. Another Chinese Zhang Na took the bronze with 1:46:21.

"I felt quite easy to win the gold here, compared with the final in Bangkok. I think I have made some progress in the past years," said Ma.

The Chinese led the first lap with 24.52 minutes, 17.3 seconds ahead of her Japanese opponent.

"I'm happy to retain the title. I will try to prove myself again at the Athens Olympics." said Ma, who finished a disappointing 16th at the Sydney Olympic Games.
