1. From Afghanistan to DPR Korea, it was a full house for the first time in the 52-year history of the Asian Games. All 43 members of the Olympic Council of Asia and newly-independent East Timor competed in the Sept. 29-Oct. 14 games.

2. DPR Korea made its first ever appearance in a multi-sport event held in South Korea.

3. China won the Asian Games overall race with 150 gold medals,followed by South Korea in 96 and Japan in 44. A total of 39 delegations made it to the medal standings against 33 in last games.

4. Japanese swimmer Kosuke Kitajima smashed American Mike Barrowman's 10-year-old 200m breaststroke record - the oldest men's record standing.

5. Chinese women runner Sun Yingjie swept both 5,000 and 10,000meters gold medals, registering two world second best times of theyear.

6. China has lost ground in table tennis, losing four gold medals including the women's team, won by DPR Korea.

7. Refereeing controversy dogged the badminton tournament as South Korea won an ill-tempered men's team final which saw Indonesia stage a two-hour boycott amid angry accusations of biased judging.

8. The smear of drugs reared its ugly head when Indian gold medalist Sunita Rani tested positive twice after her 5,000m and 1,500m races. She won the 5,000m and finished third over 1,500.

9. The South Korean men's basketball team upset defending champion China 102-100 in extra time, winning over the Chinese in the Asian Games for the first time in 20 years.

10. The 10-event gymnastics competition produced 17 gold medalists, including three who shared the top of the podium in themen's horizontal bar.
