Six People Beaten to Death by Rebels in Northern Uganda

Six people were beaten to death by the Lord Resistance Army (LRA) rebels with big sticks in Gulu district, northern Uganda, reported local daily the New Vision on Thursday.

Six people were beaten to death by the Lord Resistance Army (LRA) rebels with big sticks in Gulu district, northern Uganda, reported local daily the New Vision on Thursday.

The massacre took place on Tuesday night when a group of LRA rebels raided Lalogi village, some 60 km south-east of Gulu.

The rebels also torched 63 huts and 11 granaries.

Overall Uganda People's Defense Forces (UPDF) northern intelligence chief Charles Otema-Awany, who travelled to Lalogi, said five victims were killed and their bodies lined up along the Gulu-Moroto road, another body was found in a nearby village.

UPDF fourth division spokesman Paddy Ankunda visited the scene of the massacre together with journalists.

The massacre followed 52 villagers in neighboring district of Pader who were killed by the LRA rebels on Sunday.

The LRA rebels have killed tens of thousands people and forced another 800,000 to flee their homes in northern part of the country in the last 16 years.
