China is willing to continue to strengthen its anti-terror cooperation with the United States and all those concerned, Liu Jianchao, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said Thursday in Beijing.

In response to a question at a regular press briefing, Liu said China is always in firm opposition to terrorism of any form and has actively supported and participated in international anti-terrorism efforts.

According to an agreement reached between the heads of state of both countries, China and the U.S. put in place a mid and long-term mechanism on anti-terror cooperation, Liu noted, saying the mechanism is in sound operation, with fairly wide-ranging contents and many departments involved.

He said both sides consider the cooperation an important component part of the international anti-terrorism fight and also a major component for constructive and cooperative relations between the two countries.

China and the U.S. have cooperated on anti-terrorism under the principle of equality, and mutual benefit, Liu added.

China and the U.S. have so far held two rounds of consultations on anti-terrorism, the first of which was held last December when US Ambassador-at-large Francis Taylor, the US State Department's coordinator for anti-terrorism, came to China and exchanged views on international and regional anti-terrorism.

In June this year, a Chinese delegation went to the U.S. for the second round of consultations.

Meanwhile, Liu said, the two countries have set up an anti-terror working group in the sphere of finance, which held its first consultation in May 2002.

China and the U.S. will hold a third round of anti-terror consultations in the near future, the spokesman said.
