Chinese Defense Minister Meets with Croatian Speaker

Chinese defense minister Chi Haotian said he hopes that both China and Croatia will make joint efforts to expand the scope of cooperation in the building of their armed forces and contribute positively to world peace and stabili, noted Tomcicty.

Chinese defense minister Chi Haotian said he hopes that both China and Croatia will make joint efforts to expand the scope of cooperation in the building of their armed forces and contribute positively to world peace and stabili, noted Tomcicty.

Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and state councilor, made the remark at a meeting with visiting Croatian parliament speaker Zlatko Tomcic and his party here Friday.

The Chinese people and their People's Liberation Army (PLA) have always cherished a friendly sentiment toward Croatians and their armed forces, Chi said. To maintain and develop a long-term and stable friendship with Croatia is China's consistent policy.

On bilateral military ties, he said, contacts between the two armed forces have promoted mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation.

China appreciates Croatia's adherence to the one-China policy, he added.

Speaker Tomcic said his delegation is glad to visit China on the 10th anniversary of the forging of diplomatic ties between Croatia and China.

Since the two countries set up diplomatic ties, he said, there have been frequent bilateral political dialogues with a sound growth of bilateral relations.

The Croatian people and their armed forces were deeply impressed with Chi's visit to Croatia in March this year, noted Tomcic.

He reiterated that Croatia will, as always, work to further thedevelopment of relations between the two countries and their armedforces.
