Local newspapers published editorials Friday, hailing the opening of the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and highlighting the significance of the event.

Wen Wei Po noted in its editorial that the congress opened at a time when China is under the most historically favorable national condition and is entering a new development stage.

The editorial pointed out that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) community is paying great attention to the congress as the future of Hong Kong and the whole country is closely connected with the CPC.

Hong Kong people hope the congress will further boost China's reform and opening-up and enable the country to move to a new era of strength and prosperity, according to the editorial.

Ta Kung Pao carried a commentary, stressing the need for China to keep abreast of times and expecting the congress to endeavor to meet such a need.

Hong Kong Commercial Daily said Hong Kong people from various walks of life are confident that China will become more and more prosperous and robust under the leadership of the CPC, which is increasingly experienced in its rule after 81 years of all kinds of challenges and tests.

The development of China will bring vigor to the global economy and act as a great power in promoting global peace, as well as benefiting the HKSAR, it added.

It said that the growth of the CPC is not only a good blessing for China, but also for Hong Kong and the rest of the world.
