Russia expressed on Monday its concern about information coming from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) about its rights to have nuclear weapons.

"Moscow is concerned about contradictory information coming from Pyongyang about the 'right' of North Korea (DPRK) to have nuclear weapons," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko said in a statement.

The statement followed a report Sunday on the DPRK's state-run radio that DPRK has nuclear weapons. According to South Korea's Yonhap news agency, the DPRK's Pyongyang Radio reported in a Korean-language report that the country "has come to have nuclear and other strong military weapons due to nuclear threats by U.S.imperialists."

Yakovenko expressed hope that the friendly DPRK's administration will strictly observe its "regulations and obligations under the cornerstone Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, which is a guarantee not only of global strategic stability but also peace and security on the Korean Peninsula."

"Russia also expects other interested sides to be reserved and to continue fulfilling their international obligations to the fullest," Yakovenko said.
