China's policy of "opening-up" and its transition from a planned economy to a market economy have provided a new environment and new opportunities for Chinese-Polish economic cooperation, said the Chinese trade minister Thursday in Beijing.

Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Shi Guangsheng made the remark while holding talks with Polish Economic Minister Jacek Piechota.

China and Poland encourage the trade of goods and services as well as mutual investment and economic cooperation, Shi said, emphasizing that China welcomes Polish companies to the Chinese market.

"The two governments should create a positive environment for such cooperation," he said.

Piechota said Poland and China, countries which traditionally maintain sound economic and trade relations, are currently in the midst of economic transition.

The two countries should actively forge new economic and trade relations, he said, stressing the importance of economic cooperation in a third country.
