Zhu Rongji Meets with Russian President
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji said Monday that he will continue to work with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov and implement all agreements of cooperation reached by Presidents Jiang Zemin and Vladimir Putin.

Premier Zhu made the remarks in a meeting with President Putin on Monday afternoon.

The Jiang-Putin talks, Zhu noted, designated the major directions and key areas for cooperation in a fairly long period to come, mapped out a strategic program for bilateral ties and tabled new challenges for the two governments.

China had a vast market, numerous competitive industries and advanced expertise, and an increasing investment capability, Zhu said.

Russia had abundant natural resources, adequate industrial power, a well-grounded scientific and technological base and highly-competent human resources, he said.

The two economies were mutually compatible so economic and trade cooperation was the inevitable choice for their sustainable development, he told Putin.

China and Russia had made cooperation on major energy projects a priority.

He suggested the two countries actively increase mutual investment, regulate trade order, improve trade-related service systems so as to create fair and transparent cooperative conditions in accordance with the World Trade Organization rules and international conventions.

Putin said it was encouraging to see tremendous progress made in Sino-Russian cooperation. The two economies complimented each other and, apart from traditional cooperation areas such as energy,Russia and China could open up new mutually beneficial areas, including nuclear energy, space technology and other high-technology fields.

The constant expansion and ever-deepening of bilateral trade ties were not only helpful to the economic growth of Russia but conducive to China's realization of the goals set at the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

Zhu and Putin also exchanged views on the development of major cooperative projects between the two countries.
