Russian President Putin Concludes China Tour

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin concluded his tour in China and left Beijing Tuesday. Putin held talks with Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Vice President Hu Jintao, Premier Zhu Rongji and top lawmaker Li Peng during the flying visit.

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin concluded his tour in China and left Beijing Tuesday.

Putin's entourage, including his wife Lyudmila Putina, left aboard the same plane.

Chinese vice foreign minister Liu Guchang, Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Deguang and his wife Zheng Shulan and Russian Ambassador to China Igor Alexeyevich Rogachev saw Putin off at the airport.

Putin held talks with Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Vice President Hu Jintao, Premier Zhu Rongji and top lawmaker Li Peng during the flying visit.

Jiang Zemin and Putin signed a Sino-Russian Joint Declaration, which vows to strengthen bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields.

It also calls for concerted efforts from the world to fight terrorism, including Chechen and East Turkistan terrorists.

On Tuesday morning, Putin delivered a speech at Beijing University, one of the most prestigious institutions of higher education in China.

Putin expressed his satisfaction at giving a speech at Beijing University, the cradle of the May 4th Movement.

He notes that as two countries with unique civilizations, Russia and China both play very important roles in international affairs.

After the speech, Putin and his wife went to visit Badaling, a section of the Great Wall some 70 kilometers northwest of Beijing.
