Russia shares the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) approach to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) recent decision "to unfreeze" its nuclear facilities, Russian Foreign Ministry's spokesman Boris Malakhov said in a statement issued Tuesday.

The DPRK last Saturday asked the IAEA to remove monitoring cameras from all its nuclear facilities, a follow-up to its decision to reactivate its nuclear program after the US announced suspension of heavy oil supplies for it.

"Russia shares the IAEA's approaches, stipulated in Director General Mohamed ElBaradei's appeal to the DPRK authorities, given Pyongyang's recent decision to 'unfreeze' its nuclear facilities listed in the 1994 framework agreement between the DPRK and the US," Malakhov said.

"IAEA and the DPRK experts will meet to discuss the implementation of the agreement on guarantees in a new setting. Russia also welcomes ElBaradei's call on all signatories to the 1994 framework agreement, which is an important instrument of maintaining peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula, to adhereto its provisions and continue discussions to find a mutually acceptable decision peacefully," Malakhov said.
