More than one million Russians have called to submit their questions for President Vladimir Putin, who will appear before the nation in a televised question-and-answer session next week.

The Interfax news agency cited sources in the Moscow Center, which is responsible to accept questions through a free telephone hotline and the Internet, as saying that phone calls are mainly from elderly people, pensioners and war veterans, who are asking about pension increases and social payments.

Putin initiated the unprecedented live session last year and answered 47 selected from more than 400,000 questions during the two-and-a-half conference.

This year's question-and-answer session is scheduled for Dec. 19, broadcast on the Channel One and Rossiya television channels as well as two radio stations.
