At least 20 people were killed and some 70 others were wounded Sunday evening in two simultaneous Palestinian suicide bombing attacks near the old central bus station in Israel's coastal city of Tel Aviv, TV Channel Two reported.

The deadly attacks took place at about 18:30 local time (1630 GMT) at the corner of G'dud Ha'ivri and Neve She'anan streets of Tel Aviv.

Two suicide bombers were also killed in the attacks, according to the report.

"The two explosions happened in parallel streets... It's a placewhere there are many foreign workers," Tel Aviv police chief Yossi Sedbon told Army Radio.

The TV also reported that among the wounded, there were foreign workers in Israel illegally.

David Baker, an official at Israel's Prime Minister's Office, condemned the attack, saying Israel had no other choice but to fight terrorism with "a fury."

"The Palestinian terrorist campaign of carnage has struck at innocent Israelis in Tel Aviv," he said, adding that "Israel will not yield to Palestinian terror and will fight it with a fury. We have no other choice."

Palestinian radical group of Islamic Jihad (Holy War) reportedlyclaimed responsibility for the deadly attacks,

The attacks entirely broke the relevant quiet situation inside Israel, which has been preparing for its general elections scheduled on Jan. 28, and an anticipated US-led war against Iraq.

On July 17 last year, two suicide bombers from the Jihad blew themselves up at the entrance to the Neve Sha'anan, killing four people and wounding 40 others.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz will discuss the response to the attacks, which came some 30 days after a deadly suicide bombing attack in Jerusalem that killed11 people.
