Chile Expresses Sympathy to US over Lost Spacecraft

Chilean President Ricardo Lagos expressed sympathy to his US counterpart George W. Bush over the loss of spacecraft Columbia on Saturday.

Chilean President Ricardo Lagos expressed sympathy to his US counterpart George W. Bush over the loss of spacecraft Columbia on Saturday.

Chilean Foreign Minister Soledad Alvear also sent a similar note to US Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Alvear issued the note to "communicate her sorrow over this tragedy to the US people and government at the difficult moment."

Space shuttle Columbia disintegrated on Saturday morning with acrew of seven, including the first Israeli astronaut, soon after the beginning of landing maneuvers.

The oldest US spacecraft was expected to land at 1416 GMT at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral of Florida in the southeast of the United States.
