Tibetan Returnees Celebrate Upcoming Tibetan New Year
Tibetans who have returned from overseas and relatives of those who now stay abroad held a gathering here Monday afternoon to celebrate the upcoming Tibetan New Year.
The Tibetan Year of the Sheep, according to the Tibetan calendar, begins on Mar. 3.
Soi'nam Rinzin, deputy director of the united front work department of the regional committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said that last year, Tibet made rapid progress in terms of economic development, social stability, consolidation of border defense and improvement of people's living standards.
In Tibet, he said, people from all ethnic groups have devoted great efforts to building a well off society in an all-round way, full of hope and confidence.
Returnee Xagoi Yexe'banqoi attributed Tibet's dramatic improvements in traffic, energy and communication industries in recent years to the concern of the central government and to support from the other parts of the country.
The participants expressed their firm determination to fight against the Dalai Lama and the Dalai clique, who are attempting to split China.
Since China began to implement reform and opening up policies, many Tibetans living abroad have returned to witness the great achievements made in economic, social and cultural fields. Some of them have chosen to remain in China to contribute to the development of their hometown.
