Yao's 24 Points Fails to Save Rockets from 110-86 Loss to Nets

Yao Ming stepped up to pour in 24 points but failed to save the Rockets from a 110-86 loss against New Jersey Nets on Monday.

Richard Jefferson had 30 points and 10 rebounds and dished out 11 assists to lead the Nets. It was the underrated Jefferson's first career triple-double.

Jason Kidd also notched 30 points while pulling down 12 rebounds for the Nets.

Yao would not forget the night when he packed up the team's highest 24 points, including team's first 12 but he took an elbow to the throat from Dikembo Mutombo.

The loss leaves Houston half a game behind Phoenix for the eighth and final playoff berth in the Western Conference.

In Los Angeles, Shaquile O'Neal and Kobe Bryant contributed 63 points to lead the three-time defending champion a 110-4 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

O'Neal had 34 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots as theLakers (43-31) won for the eighth time in 11 games.

The Lakers are now in seventh place in the Western Conference with eight games remaining, but could get as high as fourth. They trail Utah by a half-game, Minnesota by 2 and Portland by three.

In Orlando, Allen Iverson poured in 42 points on 15-of-31 shooting as the Philadelphia 76ers rallied to defeat the Orlando Magic 118-113 in overtime.

Kenny Thomas added 24 points while pulling down a whopping 20 rebounds, as Derrick Coleman added 18 points and 13 boards for theSixers.

Orlando's Tracy McGrady, a 2003 MVP hopeful, just missed a triple-double, racking up 39 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.

The Magic are winless in their four overtime games this season.

In Miami, veteran Sam Cassell notched 12 of his 20 points in the final period as the Milwaukee Bucks rallied to beat the Heat 91-86.

Gary Payton also counted 20 points for Milwaukee, which moved agame up on the idle Washington Wizards for the East's final playoff slot.
