China's leading newspaper, the People's Daily, carries an editorial on May 1 to greet the country's workers, farmers, intellectuals and builders of socialism with China's characteristics on the International Labor Day.
The editorial pays respect to medical staff and scientists working on the front line of fighting SARS as well as all those who still work on the day and calls on the nation's workers to stick to their positions and work hard to support the battle against SARS.
Since the outbreak of SARS in China, people of all circles, especially medical workers and scientists, have been working day and night and strenuously to combat the disease under the leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the State Council.
It says that those who were rewarded the May Day medals by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions for their meritorious deeds are outstanding representatives of China's working class in the new era.
The editorial calls on the broad masses of the workers to firmly implement government measures to focus on economic development while doing good work in preventing and treating SARS.
It calls on workers to implement the pro-active financial policy, maintain normal orders of production, study and living and make efforts to fulfil the planned objectives for this year and ensure the sustainable and healthy development of the country's economy.
