Chinese Mainland Reports 187 New SARS Cases

The Chinese mainland reported 187 new severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) cases and 11 new deaths between 10:00 a.m. of April 30 and 10:00 a.m. of May 1, according to the Ministry of Health Thursday. The cumulative SARS cases on the Chinese mainland rose to 3,638 and 170 had died.

The Chinese mainland reported 187 new severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) cases and 11 new deaths between 10:00 a.m. of April 30 and 10:00 a.m. of May 1, according to the Ministry of Health Thursday.

Of the new cases, 122 were in Beijing, Inner Mongolia (27), Tianjin (12), Hebei (eight), Shanxi (eight), Guangdong (seven), Jilin (two) and Henan (one).

China had a total of 3,638 SARS cases (including 753 medical workers), which included 1,351 patients who had recovered and been discharged from hospital and 170 deaths. Beijing reported 9 patients (including 2 medical workers) who had been falsely diagnosed with SARS.

Of these figures:

Beijing reported 122 new cases, 10 patients recovered and 7 deaths. Of the 122 cases, 40 used to be suspected cases and now are confirmed as SARS patients; Tianjin reported 12 new cases; Hebei reported 8 new cases; Shanxi reported 8 new cases, 3 patient recovered, 1 death; Inner Mongolia reported 27 new cases, 2 death; Jilin reported 2 new cases, 1 death; Fujian reported 1 recovered; Henan reported 1 new case; Guangdong reported 7 new cases, 5 recovered.

From 10:00 am of April 30 to 10:00 am of May 1, China also reported 244 new suspected cases, including 96 from Beijing, 9 from Tianjin, 30 from Hebei, 20 from Shanxi, 25 from Inner Mongolia, 2 from Jilin, 1 from Heilongjiang, 6 from Shanghai, 2 from Jiangsu, 2 from Anhui, 2 from Henan, 3 from Hubei, 37 from Guangdong, 1 from Sichuan, and 8 from Shaanxi. From 10:00 am of April 30 to 10:00 am of May 1, China reported 116 patients who had been falsely diagnosed with SARS. By 10:00 am of May 1, China had a total of 2,291 suspected cases.
