China is glad to see the recent positive steps taken by both India and Pakistan to improve their relations, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue Saturday.

She made the remarks when asked to comment on the latest developments with the situation between India and Pakistan.

Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee voiced on Friday his readiness to restore diplomatic ties and air transportation with Pakistan. Pakistan expressed welcome to India's announcement.

Zhang said that India and Pakistan have both expressed their willingness to take concrete measures to improve bilateral ties and China is pleasant to see this.

She said China believes the measures will create favorable atmosphere and conditions for the resumption of dialogue between the two countries.

India and Pakistan are both friendly neighbors of China and "We sincerely hope that the two nations will resolve their differences peacefully through dialogues and jointly contribute to peace, stability and development in the South Asian region", Zhang said.
