Deal Signed on China's Fastest Subway Cars
A deal worth 1.4 billion yuan (170 million US dollars) has been signed for 120 subway cars for the Guangzhou No. 3 subway project, according to the Guangzhou Subway Company.

Under the contract, which was signed earlier this week, the 120 subway cars will be supplied by an association of Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Plant and Siemens.
A company spokesperson said the No. 3 subway line in Guangzhou will allow trains traveling up to 120 km per hour, with an average speed of 60 km per hour, compared with 35 km per hour for existing subway trains.
About 70 percent of the car parts will be locally produced. The first three subway cars will be delivered in September 2005, and the last one in mid-2007.
The No. 3 subway line is scheduled to be operational at in late June 2006.
Guangzhou's 35.75-km No. 3 subway line will have 18 stations, serving as a major hub linking the southern and northern parts of the city.
