The development of lasting and stable good-neighborliness and cooperation based on equality and mutual benefits between China and Mongolia are in the interest of both peoples, said Mongolian President Nachagyn Bagabandy.

In a recent interview with Xinhua, the Mongolian president said his country is pleased to see the smooth development of bilateral ties in all fields, noting that there are no pending differences of principle between the two countries.

The leaders of the two nations have discussed and agreed on the cardinal principles guiding the development of bilateral relations,he added.

The Friendship and Cooperation Treaty, signed in 1994, and the Joint Declaration, signed in 1998, have laid the foundation for the relations and cooperation between China and Mongolia, he said.

The Mongolian president said both countries have realized the importance of strengthening and promoting bilateral ties through active efforts and were willing to further enrich the content of bilateral cooperation.

In terms of the rapidly developing exchanges in the fields of culture and education, he said the number of Mongolians going to China for tour, study or business has been increasing to between 350,000 and 370,000 each year.

The Mongolian president expressed his welcome to Chinese President Hu Jintao's forthcoming state visit, saying Mongolia highly values Hu's visit as Mongolia is included in countries of Hu's first overseas tour after taking office as the Chinese president.

He said that during Hu's visit to his country, leaders of the two countries will discuss the friendly ties and basic principles for developing bilateral relations in the short, medium term or throughout the whole 21st century. Meanwhile, they will also exchange views on international and regional issues.

He described the Chinese president's visit to Mongolia as of great importance, adding that he believes the visit will be successful and help enhance bilateral ties.

On bilateral trade, the Mongolian president said China is his country's biggest investor and trading partner. With joint efforts, economic cooperation and trade have been expanding between the twosides.

The Mongolian president pointed out that it is important for the two sides to jointly develop large-scale projects, adding thatthere are broad prospects in making use of China's capital to develop Mongolia's mineral resources.

Such cooperation is beneficial to both China and Mongolia, he said, as it will not only promote Mongolia's economic development, but also contribute to China's economic growth and help boost the regional integration process.

China's aid to the development of Mongolia's infrastructure will have a positive impact on bilateral relations and cooperation, he added.

He also welcomed more Chinese investment in Mongolia and promised to create a favorable environment for Chinese investors.

He noted that he has visited China three times and would like to send his congratulations to "the Chinese people on their great achievements in building their country." "The rapid development of our great southern neighbor will have a positive impact on the development of not only the Asia-Pacific region, but also the whole world."

"China's stability, development and prosperity will definitely create more favorable conditions for the development of its neighbors, including Mongolia which enjoys friendly relations withChina," he said.
