Coastal Province Reports One Third of China's Seafood Exports

The coastal province of Shandong in east China exported 370 million US dollars of seafood in the first four months of this year, accounting for more than one third of the country's total seafood exports.

The coastal province of Shandong in east China exported 370 million US dollars of seafood in the first four months of this year, accounting for more than one third of the country's total seafood exports.

Sources with the local customs said that by the end of April, 162,000 tons of seafood had been exported via the port city of Qingdao, up 28.2 percent over the same period of last year, while the country exported 420,000 tons in total.

Exports of the province's main sea product, frozen fish fillets,saw an increase of 47.5 percent to a value of 230 million US dollars in the four months, which was 62.2 percent of the province's total value of seafood exports.

Shandong's exports of processed sea products also saw sharp increases. In the four months, 250 million US dollars of processedsea products were exported, totaling 67.6 percent of the total export value, an increase of 41 percent.

The province's exports to the European Union increased by 130 percent over the first four months. Other main export destinationsincluded Japan, the Republic of Korea and the United States, to which exports were 0.4 percent down, 11.6 percent up and 7.7 percent up respectively.
