China Sees Stable Growth in Foreign Trade despite SARS

China registered a total foreign trade volume of 65.45 billion US dollars, with a trade surplus of 2.23 billion dollars for the month of May.

China registered a total foreign trade volume of 65.45 billion US dollars, with a trade surplus of 2.23 billion dollars for the month of May.

The volume was up 39 percent over the same month last year, according to the latest statistics from State Customs.

The statistics show that exports in May rose 37.3 percent to reach 33.84 billion US dollars, while imports increased by 40.9 percent to 31.61 billion dollars.

During the first five months of this year, the volume of foreign trade rose by 39.6 percent to 309.34 billion US dollars, with a surplus of 2.38 billion dollars, according to the statistics.
