Xinjiang's Foreign Trade Hits Record High

Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, in northwest China, registered a record 1.489 billion US dollars in total foreign trade volume in the first five months of this year, a year-on-year increase of more than 80 percent.

Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, in northwest China, registered a record 1.489 billion US dollars in total foreign trade volume in the first five months of this year, a year-on-year increase of more than 80 percent.

Of the total figure, Xinjiang's exports reached 582 million US dollars, and its imports was 907 million US dollars, respective year-on-year increases of more than 70 and 85 percent, according to statistics from the Customs of Urumqi.

This westernmost region of China registered 326 million US dollars in foreign trade volume in May alone, a rise of more than 50 percent year-on-year.

Trade volume between Xinjiang and its major trade partners continued to rise in the five-month period.

Statistics shows that the trade volume between Xinjiang and Kazakhstan topped 762 million US dollars, a year-on-year rise of 78 percent. Similar increases have also been reported in the tradevolumes between the Chinese region and Russia, Kyrgyzstan, the United States and Japan.
