E. China Province Sees Sharp Rise in Insurance Premium Collection

Insurance firms in east China's Anhui province collected 5.084 billion yuan (612 million US dollars) in insurance premiums during the first five months of this year, up 77.2 percent over the same period last year.

Insurance firms in east China's Anhui province collected 5.084 billion yuan (612 million US dollars) in insurance premiums during the first five months of this year, up 77.2 percent over the same period last year.

Of the total amount of insurance premiums, the firms collected 859 million yuan (103 million US dollars) in property insurance, and 4.225 billion yuan (509 million US dollars) in life insurance, up 98 percent and 16.8 percent respectively year-on-year.

Faced with the SARS epidemic, insurance firms in the province took special measures to handle claims for compensation and offered 24-hour services for consultations and case reporting.

In addition, the firms have stepped up efforts to develop 40 varieties of insurance related to SARS.
