Zimbabwe Hopes to Further Strengthen Relations with China

Zimbabwean Parliament Speaker Emmerson Mnangagwa said on Wednesday that Zimbabwe wishes to further strengthen already excellent and solid relations with China.

Zimbabwean Parliament Speaker Emmerson Mnangagwa said on Wednesday that Zimbabwe wishes to further strengthen already excellent and solid relations with China.

Mnangagwa made the remarks here on the occasion of the presentation of 75 computers and accessories worth one million Renminbi (about 120,000 US dollars) donated to the Parliament of Zimbabwe by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China.

He added that since independence, China has steadfastly assisted Zimbabwe in variety of ways in realizing the objectives of liberation and nation's building.

"We have cooperated and collaborated at many international fora.The people of Zimbabwe will forever treasure this friendship," he said.

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China decided to donate 75 computers, 13 printers and 75 sets related softwares during Mnangagwa's visit to China in October 2001.

"I want to assure you that these computers will be put to good use by enhancing the operational capacity of Parliament," said Mnangagwa.

He pointed out that this donation would also enable the Parliament of Zimbabwe to effectively implement its reform programs.

He reiterated that the long standing bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and China stretch back to the time of the liberation struggle in Zimbabwe.

Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Hou Qingru said on the occasion that China and Zimbabwe enjoyed profound and traditional relations.

He said China always regards Zimbabwe as her reliable "all weather" friend.

On behalf of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, Hou Qingru officially handovered these equipment to Zimbabwean Parliament Speaker Mnangagwa.
