Colombia remains the world's largest producer of cocaine, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime said in its annual report released on Wednesday.
According to the report, between 1993 and 1999, production of the alkaloid grew five-fold, meaning that Colombia-made cocaine once reached three-fourths of the world's users.
However, production of cocaine in Colombia has shrunk by 37 percent between 2000 and 2002. In addition, the land used for such production declined by some 43,000 hectares to 102,000 hectares.
The report added that the area used for making cocaine all over the world decreased by 18 percent from 211,000 hectares to 173,000hectares in 2002.
Figures show at least some 14 million people are cocaine addicts around the world.
