China will continue to work with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to reinforce the nation's fights against HIV/AIDS and other public health problems,Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi said Friday.

The UN agency and China's Ministry of Health are preparing a report to address challenges in the field of AIDS control and to make recommendations.

The Chinese government would maintain good cooperation with the UNDP in fields including foreign investment, women's development and public health, Wu said at a meeting with Kerstin Leitner, the outgoing UNDP resident representative in China.

Leitner will soon finish her five-year term as the top UNDP official in China, and will work as a senior official at the WorldHealth Organization, also a UN agency.

Leitner said China can prevent HIV/AIDS from developing into a big health threat if the government takes immediate and strong control measures, as it has done to contain the recent outbreak ofsevere acute respiratory syndrome.
