Central China City Invites Investment Via Internet

Wuhan, capital city of central China's Hubei province, launched an on-line trade fair Monday to seek investment and cooperation from both domestic and overseas enterprises by displaying its 1,800 projects via Internet.

As of Monday morning, more than 3,800 locally-made products and 2,100 enterprises, including 34 multinational companies, had been listed on line.

The fair contains 16 "exhibition rooms", including the optical and auto industries, medicine and sanitation, property rights trading, new steel materials and multinational business.

"The on-line fair aims at improving trade efficiency and increasing business opportunities, marking the entry of the city'sforeign trade into the Internet era," said Nie Yuchun, deputy mayor of Wuhan, at the opening ceremony Monday.

Until the end of 2002, the city of Wuhan approved 6,010 foreign-funded projects, using foreign capital of 11.6 billion US dollars.

In the first half of this year, another 107 such projects were added with contracted foreign capital of 1.584 billion US dollars,up 165 percent on the same time last year.
