Myanmar Announces More Changes in Cabinet Reshuffle

Myanmar has announced more changes in the current cabinet reshuffle that began on Monday.

Myanmar has announced more changes in the current cabinet reshuffle that began on Monday.

According to Wednesday's official newspaper The New Light of Myanmar, the ruling State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) has allowed Auditor-General Brigadier-General Tin Aye and Deputy Chief Justice U Than Oo to retire from duties and the post of the auditor-general has been replaced by Major-General Lun Maung.

Besides, six deputy ministers respectively from SPDC Chairman's Office, Ministries of Energy, Finance and Revenue, Culture, Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs, and Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement have also been allowed to retire from their posts.

Meanwhile, seven new deputy ministers have been appointed to Ministries of Defense, Home Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Transport, Finance and Revenue, Energy and Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development Affairs along with one deputy minister reassigned from one ministry to another.

In addition, the SPDC also appointed Brigadier-General Aung Thein Lin as new Yangon Mayor to replace U Ko Lay.

In Monday's cabinet reshuffle, which was the 14th since Nov. 15,1997 when the SPDC was renamed from the State Law and Order Restoration Council, former SPDC First Secretary General Khin Nyunt was appointed as Prime Minister, one of the posts used to beheld by Senior-General Than Shwe who remained as SPDC Chairman, Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services and Minister of Defense. In the reshuffle, five former ministers were allowed to retire.
