Chen Hong Makes Successful Debut at Indonesia Open Badminton

World's top shuttler Chen Hong of China made his debut at the Sanyo Indonesia Open 2003 by beating Dicky Palyama of the Netherlands at Batam indoor stadium on Wednesday.

World's top shuttler Chen Hong of China made his debut at the Sanyo Indonesia Open 2003 by beating Dicky Palyama of the Netherlands at Batam indoor stadium on Wednesday.

The top-seeded Chinese took 35 minutes to thrash the Dutch player in straight sets, 15-10 and 15-3.

The world's top women shuttler Zhang Ning of China also won herfirst match in the 170,000 US dollars tournament, demolishing unseeded Malaysian Mew Choo Wong 11-2 and 11-0.

Chinese Zhou Mi, the fifth seed, advanced to next round after a11-7, 11-0 victory over Indonesian qualifier Marissa.

The Indonesia Open is the second leg of three-week Southeast Asia Grand Prix after the Singapore Open. The Malaysia Open is set for next week.

Held on the industrial island of Batam, the tournament has attracted a field of more than 500 shuttlers from over 30 countries and regions.
