China's No.1 Copper Producer Doubles Capacity
China's leading copper producer said on Sunday it has doubled its production capacity in the last few years to 400,000 tons of copper a year, becoming one of the top 10 copper producers in the world.
China's leading copper producer said on Sunday it has doubled its production capacity in the last few years to 400,000 tons of copper a year, becoming one of the top 10 copper producers in the world.
A spokesperson for Jiangxi Copper Group attributed the increased capacity to a three-year technological upgrading project,which cost a total of 1.5 billion yuan (nearly 200 million US dollars).
The company became the world's 16th biggest copper producer in 2000 when its capacity reached 200,000 tons a year through technological innovation.
The copper producer owns two of China's major copper mines in Jiangxi Province, east China.
Now the biggest copper producer in China, Jiangxi Copper Group was set up in 1979 and equipped with imported mining equipment andsmelters.
Its annual production capacity rose to 100,000 tons in 1994 from 75,000 tons in 1979 after it upgraded its key smelter.
