Army officials and official sources in Sinagar said that the three-week-long exercise, which began Monday, was aimed at giving a boost to bilateral military ties.
"These exercises are part of an ongoing process of interaction between the Indian Army and the United States," a senior army official was quoted as saying by an international news agency.
This is the second such exercise being undertaken by the two countries, the first being carried out in Agra last year.
The exercises assume importance in the wake of New Delhi takinga decision to raise new battalions of special forces to be trainedby Israeli experts and armed with Israeli assault and sniper rifles.
