China attaches importance to Sino-Malaysian relations and will work with Malaysia for the consolidation and development of bilateral friendship and cooperation, said Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

Wen spoke Monday at a meeting with visiting Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who arrived in Beijing Sunday afternoon for a five-day official visit as guest of Chinese Vice Premier Huang Ju.

Wen pointed to the strong development momentum of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, saying it is completely possible for the two sides to attain an annual trade volume exceeding 20 billion US dollars within two years.

He hoped that the two sides will promote two-way investment and cooperation with an emphasis on five fields, namely agriculture, high-tech, infrastructure, development of resources, and tourism.

Badawi said bilateral relations have had sound development and there are broad prospects for bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

The Malaysian government will further bilateral cooperation of mutual benefit, said Badawi, and Malaysia will work with China to realize their trade target at an early date.

He said China's development constitutes an opportunity for the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and is beneficial to the region.
