Unidentified gunmen Monday in Islamabad killed a Pakistani National Assembly member named Azim Dariq and four others, Dariq's spokesman Rashid Farooqy told reporters.

The gunmen opened fire on the vehicle in which Dariq was traveling from his hometown Jang in central Punjab province to attend an evening session of the National Assembly.

Dariq, chief of the banned Sunni extremist group Sipah Sahaba, was killed with his driver and his three security guards on the spot.

The gunmen fled after the shooting and no one claimed responsibility.

It is said the shooting might be related to a shooting in southport city of Karachi on Friday, which killed at least seven ShiiteMuslims.
