Syria vows to defend itself if Israel attacks again
Syria will take all necessary measures to defend its territory if Israel attacks the country again, Syrian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Bushra Kanafani said on Saturday.
Syria will take all necessary measures to defend its territory if Israel attacks the country again, Syrian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Bushra Kanafani said on Saturday.
"In case of a repetition, Syria has the right to exercise self-defense," Kanafani told a press conference in Damascus.
In response to Syria's self-defense declaration, Israel said on Saturday that states "harboring terrorists" are legitimate targets.
"Israel views every state which is harboring terrorist organizations and the leaders of those terrorist organizations who are attacking innocent citizens of the state of Israel as legitimate targets out of self-defense," Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Gideon Meir said.
Last Sunday, Israeli warplanes fired missiles at what it said was a training camp for "terrorist groups" in Syria, following a deadly suicide bombing in Israel's northern port city of Haifa, inwhich about two dozens were killed.
Israel warned Syria of more such airstrikes if Syria continues to support Palestinian militants, who have intensified attacks against Israelis in recent weeks.
However, Syria firmly rejected the Israeli allegation, saying acivilian area in the country was hit in last Sunday's raid by Israeli warplanes.
