Asian sports giant China took the two weightlifting gold medals on offer Sunday at the 1st Afro-Asian Games.
China didn't take part in the men's 54kg and 62kg competitions on Saturday and Nigerian lifters made use of the Chinese absence to take home the two gold medals.
But on Sunday, it was another story. Chinese male and female lifters dominated the competitions and won the golds with great comfort.
Chen Chufu snatched 140kg and jerked 175kg to amass a total of 315kg for the men's 69kg class. Sitthisak Suphalak of Thailand finished second at 292.5kg, followed by Cpr Sudhir Kumar of India in the third place at 290kg.
Jie Xiaomei won the women's 48kg title with a total of 187.5 (82.5/105.0), beating Nigerian Joke Elizabeth Adekola by 22.5kg. A.Sandhyarani Devi of India finished third at 157.5kg.
