Central bank to issue coins to commemorate Olympic games

The People's Bank of China, the central bank, will issue a set of 40 commemorative coins to mark the 29th Olympic Games to be held in Beijing in 2008.

The People's Bank of China, the central bank, will issue a set of 40 commemorative coins to mark the 29th Olympic Games to be held in Beijing in 2008.

Bank authorities said at a press conference here Tuesday that the set will include 9 ordinary coins and 31 made from precious metals such as gold and silver.

Overseas and domestic institutions and individuals are welcome to join bidding for the design of the coins, which should embrace the Olympic spirit, the theme and idea of the Beijing Olympic Games, the traditional culture and unique image of China and Beijing and the harmonious integration of the world's ancient and modern civilizations.
