Egyptian envoy's visit linked to Qurei-Sharon meeting: Erekat

Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman's visit and meeting with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafatis linked to Prime Minister Ahmad Qurei's upcoming meeting with his Israeli counterpart Ariel Sharon, a Palestinian official said on Monday.

Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman's visit and meeting with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafatis linked to Prime Minister Ahmad Qurei's upcoming meeting with his Israeli counterpart Ariel Sharon, a Palestinian official said on Monday.

Suleiman arrived earlier on Monday in the West Bank city ofRamallah, where he was due to meet with Palestinian leader YasserArafat and Prime Minister Ahmad Qurei.

Palestinian Minister of Negotiations Affairs Saeb Erekat told reporters that the meeting between Qurei and Sharon has not been scheduled, while Palestinian and Israeli sources has said that the meeting would be held after Sharon returns from a visit to Italy.

In response to Israeli reports about the possibility of meetingsbetween Suleiman and Israeli officials, Erekat said "Suleimanhasn't scheduled any meetings in Israel."

Erekat, meanwhile, asserted that all efforts must be exerted to "accomplish the Egyptian mission," adding "the key of success lies with Israel's commitment and respect to the concept of reciprocity."
